Duke of Edinburgh Awards
I successfully completed my Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards between September 2013 and September 2018.
I devoted a great deal of time and effort to achieve these awards including a minimum of 21 months of physical activity, 21 months volunteering and 15 months of learning and mastering a new skill, 3 qualifying expeditions and a residential.
To complete all three qualifications, I had to be dedicated, put in effort, know how to work well in a team, have confidence and forward thinking ability. After the 5 years, I inevitably found I had developed many skills and learnt a lot about myself.
Volunteering Awards
I have successfully compleated my Bronze and Silver and Gold volunteering awards with Keele University. I currently have totalled over 100 hours of voluntary work This has helped me get involved with the university, and both learn and refine new skills whilst giving back to my community.
Caribbean Elective
I was involved with the Carribian elective in which I not only developed my innovative, presentation, and teamwork skills; but brought new ideas to help with a real problem in the village of Anse la Ray (Bay of Rays).
Running- May 2020 to Current
During the pandemic, I took up running to stay fit whilst everything was closed. This has now turned into a hobby and I'm now currently part of the Newcastle/Staffs Athletic Club.
Cheerleading- September 2019 to March 2020
Due to the extreme nature of cheerleading, communication, trust and team work is vital to ensure stunts can be executed correctly, with finesse, and without injury to members of the team.
Since cheer is a team sport (stunts are unable to be carried out without all member present), it was vital I planned my work and other societies around cheer to ensure I was on time and could make as many sessions as possible.
My time as a cheerleader has developed these skills and along with my fitness, dedication and time management.
Aerial Arts Society (Committee member)- September 2019 to August 2021
As the secretary of the aerial society I took on a leadership role which required me to help organise events, help set up and down each for each class/ workshop, manage social media accounts, act as a direct point of contact for members and to help and solve any issues that occur.
Since being on the committee, we've hosted a 12 hour pole-a-thon and a bake sale to raise money for NSPCC and Safeline and 3 workshops for the society. We were in the process of organising an end of year showcase which was unfortunately halted due to Covid-19.
Aerial Arts Society member- September 2018 to August 2021
As a fresher first joining Keele university, I chose the aerial arts society to join as it was friendly empowering environment that encouraged you to push yourself to become better and learn new and more tricks and joint them together to make a routine.
The more time I've spent as a member, the more I idolise the willpower and strength of fellow pole dancers, encourage and learn from them.
Dance- June 2003- March 2020
Since I was almost 3 years old, I have been dancing a variety of different styles of dance including ballet, modern, street, musical theatre and jazz. Dance has always been a part of my life which is why I'm not surprised I joined a jazz competition group in 2020 even after a 4-year break from traditional dance.
Dancing has taught me the disciplines of etiquette, time management, socialising and confidence to perform.
Pantomime- June 2003- March 2020
I was a volunteer member of the pantomime for many years to help raise money for the local church. I have been both a chorus and cast member over the years, working as a team to put on the best show possible. I have learned many dances and songs to play my role properly and bring a bit of fun to the show!
Swimming club- February 2007- July 2011
After learning to swim in 'little ducklings' since I was one, my passion for swimming escalated and once I'd got my bronze badge, I found I wanted to continue in swimming club which lead to two competitions in which I came 4th.
